PTA Un-Fundraiser: Deadline October 31st

This year instead of asking students to sell items, collect money, or deliver goods, the PTA is asking for a cash donation. Our goal is to raise $8,000 which goes directly to support the school and programs for our students including:

  • Assembly programs such as Bubbleology, Dinoman, and RI Black Storytellers 2018_09_25_09_42_13_Document1_Wordwhich cost on average $1000 each
  • Teacher Appreciation Week
  • Snacks for school-hosted events like art night, pjs and books, and campfire storytime
  • Contribute to the playground fund

If we achieve this goal the PTA will not have any other fundraisers, besides the Color Run, this year (the 5th grade committee will still be fundraising for the 5th graders).

Additionally we will be providing a prize for the class that raises the most money,  and a prize for the first class with 100% participation in the un-fundraiser. Thank you in advance for your support!

Playground Update: August 2018

Over the summer the PTA has continued to work on revitalizing the outdoor space at Hopkins Hill. We submitted a concept plan proposal to the superintendent, building & grounds; and presented to the school committee. (See the proposal here). Our vision for the outdoor space consists of 4 main areas:

  • a field
  • outdoor classroom
  • natural playscape
  • trees/shrubs

The concept plan has received support from the superintendent and the school committee. Additionally, in conjunction with the RI Tree Council, we are working on tree planting day for this fall. However, in order to move forward with the natural playscape portion of the revitalization, the school’s insurance carrier requires construction level plans. We are currently working with the superintendent to determine exactly what the insurance company needs so that we may proceed on that front.

We have also ordered new swings which should be installed soon!

Lastly, the playground committee is always looking for more volunteers, whether it be helping with the color run or working with the tree council. Please email me if you would like to help!

Trees!

On Monday May 21st, the Kindergarten classes with support from the PTA and RI Tree Council, planted our ceremonial tree. This tree is the first (we hope!) of many trees that will help improve our outdoor space. To make sure that this tree survives we are asking for volunteers to help water the tree throughout the end of the school year and in the summer. Below you will find a sign-up genius link. The tree needs to be watered every Monday and Friday unless there is significant rainfall. Specific instructions are on the sign-up page. We would appreciate your help in keeping this tree alive and growing!

Additionally, our next Playground Committee meeting is on Monday June 11th at 6:30pm at the Bean Barn on Tiogue Ave. We are currently working on plans to utilize the money raised at the Chase the Rainbow Color Run Event. We would welcome your help and input. We would especially appreciate help from anyone with a landscape/design background.

Thank You!

IMG_0852The Hopkins Hill PTA wants to say THANK YOU.  Thank you to the participants who braved the unpredictable weather. Thank you to the businesses who sponsored our event and donated raffle items. Thank you to the local media who publicized our event. Thank you to the volunteers who threw color and checked people in. (We had the most we have ever had at any PTA event!). Thank you to our DJ who donated his time and services.  And thank you to the playground committee who worked long and hard to put everything together.

The PTA will meet soon to debrief and plan how to move forward with the funds raised. We already have some great ideas. Be on the lookout for an announcement during the month of May.

A Chase the Rainbow participant shared this photo (above). Our first start time was 8:30am and just after the the runners began, we got an actual rainbow. Pretty Cool!

PS- If you have any pictures from the event you would be willing to share, please email them!
